Art Group

Thursday's, 14:00 - 17:00

We are a group of 10 amateur artists who meet at Stoke Bishop Village Hall almost every Thursday at 2.00 PM. The group was established on 17, September 1998 and we enjoy a pleasant social gathering whist practising our painting skills.
We use a range of media from watercolour, pastels, gouache, charcoal and oil paints. In the summer we often paint in outside locations to get experience of working in real time. We prefer this to be when the English weather is at its best.

Although we have sought occasional instruction from visiting established artists we tend to make our own individual arrangements for formal art courses, relying on friendly self criticism within the group. As individuals we frequently submit paintings to open exhibitions in the area with some success in a highly competitive environment. We have yet to achieve the satisfaction of having entries accepted by the Royal Academy so in the meantime we have to be content with the enormous pleasure that comes with the thought that somebody has bought pictures from us to hang within their own home.

At the moment we do not have room for any more artists but if people have an interest there is no reason why they shouldn't contact one of us or we would be pleased to see them one Thursday afternoon and make a note of their interest.

Yoga Adults Class

Wednesday's, 14:00 - 15:15

Yoga is a way of developing a good sound body and helps calm the mind. This is achieved through Yoga Asana (postures) which are from an ancient system designed to systematically rotate joints and stretch muscles which realign and strengthens the skeletal structure of our bodies and aids the function of the different systems at work in our bodies.
Yoga is good for us....... our minds effect our bodies and our bodies effect our minds, through Asana we release and relax then feel calm and awake.

Joining in a class with Sara-Jo allows you to work at your own pace, always starting with warm ups and then progressing through the different stages of asana. Yoga has been found to be conducive to good back care and a sense of well being. The knowledge of Yoga comes through the practise of Yoga.

Sara-Jo offers Adults Yoga and Happy Yoga for tots to teens  at Stoke Bishop Village Hall on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

What Is Pilates

Pilates is a safe, gentle and incredibly effective form of exercise, that is used by many professional athletes and dancers alike. It is often prescribed by doctors, osteopaths and physiotherapists for people with chronic problems, such as back or neck pain, arthritis, pain or injury, ME and repetitive strain syndrome, among others.

The controlled, progressive approach of Pilates teaches good movement skills step-by-step, which lead to improved posture, core strength and flexibility. Pilates targets the deep postural muscles, building strength from the inside out, rebalancing the body and bringing it into correct alignment. It helps to reshape your body, which will become longer, leaner and more toned. It is also a great way to relieve unwanted stress and tension.

It is important that people with no previous Pilates experience do a fundamentals workshop to cover the basic Pilates principles. This is true for the first time exerciser and even someone who has exercised all their life. Thereafter Pattie runs classes for beginners, intermediate and advanced students.

Before your first session you will be asked to complete an enrolment form, where you can give details of any injuries or conditions to ensure that you exercise safely.

All classes work to a maximum group of 12. This means that every student can have close supervision and support. If you are joining a group class you will need a certain level of functional mobility to get up and down off the floor.

Pattie teaches nine different classes in various venues in the Bristol area.
